Miller has submitted his Art of Aldrich article to the Forum. The new editor of the Deliniator, Theodore Dreiser is ill, but the assistant has asked for a new poem. Miller holds clambakes each Sunday and hopes Markham will attend one. Written on Havemeyer Point Inn letterhead.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
